Before the flight
Is it legal to fly a drone over my house?
Yes, with your consent and when the flight is planned within the UK rules. We're CAA registered, hold an A2 Certificate of Competency and carry public liability insurance, and we check every site for airspace and permission requirements before we fly. See the permissions we check.
Do I need to be at home?
Not always. We need your signed consent and access to the take-off point, usually a garden or drive. Many clients like to be there, and we're happy to show you the images on site.
Will you film my neighbours?
No. We plan the flight to look at your property only. Where a roof is shared, we ask the neighbour first. If people appear in an image by chance, we crop or blur them before delivery.
I'm near Southampton Airport. Is that a problem?
Not at all; it just needs more notice. Flying inside the airport's flight restriction zone needs permission through NATS, which takes at least 14 days. Allow two to three weeks for these jobs, and we'll handle the application for you.
How much notice do you need?
About a week for most homes, and two to three weeks near an airport, the docks or other sites that need permission. If it's urgent, ask: we'll tell you honestly what's possible.
On the day
What happens if the weather is bad?
Our current drones don't fly in rain, and no drone flies in winds above its limits. We check the forecast in the days before and on the morning of the flight, tell you early if it's a no, and rebook at a time that suits you. You can check conditions yourself on Can we fly today?. The DJI Matrice 4TD, coming soon, is IP55 weather-sealed and will be able to keep working in light rain.
How long does it take?
Usually under two hours on site, including setting up, the flights and packing away.
Is it noisy?
A drone sounds like a loud hum close up, and fades quickly with height. Flights are short, and we keep the time over any one spot to a minimum.
What should I do while you fly?
Nothing, apart from keeping people and pets indoors or away from the take-off area if you can. We'll brief you when we arrive.
Results and prices
What do I get?
Edited, high-resolution photos and short video, labelled by location so you or your builder can find each part of the roof or property. Files are sent by download link, usually within a few days.
Is a drone inspection a structural survey?
No. It's a clear visual record of what can be seen from the air. If we spot something that needs a closer look, your roofer or surveyor will have the images to work from.
How much does it cost?
Every job is quoted for its own site, because size, access and permissions vary. Use the job checker and we'll send a written quote.
Will you use my photos?
Only if you say yes. The consent form lets you choose whether we may show the images in our portfolio, and how you'd like to be credited.
Are you insured and qualified?
Yes: CAA registered operator, A2 Certificate of Competency and £1m public liability insurance, with our Remote Pilot Certificate (RPC-L1) in progress. See our credentials.
Ready when you are.
Tell us the job and we'll take it from there.
